About Kia K9
The Kia K9 is a full-size luxury sedan introduced in South Korea in 2012 as Kia’s flagship passenger car. Positioned above the K8 and other K-series saloons, it represents the brand’s highest level of conventional sedan design, comfort and technology. It uses a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, with all-wheel drive available on selected versions. Export models have included the K900 name, particularly in North America.
Two generations have been produced. The first-generation K9 established Kia in the large rear-wheel-drive luxury class and was offered with V6 engines, while some export versions also received a V8. The second generation arrived in 2018 with a longer wheelbase, a more spacious cabin and a stronger emphasis on refinement and driver-assistance technology. A substantial update followed in 2021, revising the exterior and in-car systems while retaining the same basic platform.
The current Korean range centres on 3.8-litre naturally aspirated and 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engines, both paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The K9 is known for its quiet ride, generous rear-seat space, extensive comfort equipment and understated styling. It occupies a niche as a traditional large luxury saloon from a mainstream manufacturer, serving both owner-drivers and chauffeur-oriented buyers.
