About Kia Bongo
The Kia Bongo is a compact cab-over light commercial vehicle introduced in South Korea in 1980. It began as a one-ton truck alongside the Bongo Coach van and became closely associated with small businesses, farming, delivery work and local trades. Within Kia’s lineup, it has long served as the brand’s core small work truck.
The model has passed through four generations: the original Bongo, the second-generation Wide Bongo of 1989, the Bongo Frontier launched in 1997, and the fourth-generation Bongo III introduced in 2004. Export versions have often carried K-Series names such as K2500 and K2700, while passenger-van relatives were marketed under other names.
Bongo trucks are known for a cab-over layout that provides a useful cargo bed within a compact overall length. Depending on market and model year, the range has included standard, extended and double cabs, varied payload ratings, two- and four-wheel drive, and specialist bodies for refrigerated transport, parcel delivery, tipping and other commercial tasks.
In South Korea, the Bongo III remains available in one-ton and 1.2-ton forms, with LPG turbo and battery-electric powertrains. Its role is defined by manoeuvrability, flexible configurations and suitability for urban routes and regional work rather than the priorities of Kia’s passenger vehicles.
