About Kia Avella
The Kia Avella was a small B-segment passenger car introduced in South Korea in 1994. It occupied the affordable end of Kia’s range, alongside the older Pride, and was aimed at buyers seeking economical urban transport. The model was produced through the late 1990s, with some export-market production continuing into 2000, before the Avella and Pride were replaced by the Kia Rio.
Closely related to the second-generation Ford Festiva, the Avella was also marketed as the Ford Aspire in North America and under the Festiva name in several other regions. This reflected Kia’s manufacturing and development links with Ford and Mazda during the period. The Avella was built as a front-engine, front-wheel-drive car and offered compact exterior dimensions with practical seating and luggage space.
The range included three-door and five-door hatchbacks, while the four-door saloon was known as the Avella Delta. Depending on specification and market, petrol engines included 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre units, paired with manual or automatic transmissions. The model remained within a single generation, although styling and equipment were updated during its production run.
The Avella is mainly known for its simple mechanical layout, modest running costs and variety of body styles. It also marked the first use of Kia’s oval brand logo, making it a notable model in the company’s transition towards a more modern international identity.
