About Jeep Wagoneer
The Jeep Wagoneer is a family of SUVs best known for combining four-wheel-drive capability with spacious, car-like comfort. The original full-size SJ model arrived for 1963, replacing Jeep’s earlier utility wagons. Produced through the Kaiser Jeep, AMC and Chrysler ownership eras, it helped establish the idea of a refined 4x4 and remained closely associated with practical interiors, strong road presence and available wood-effect exterior trim.
In 1984, the Wagoneer name moved to a smaller XJ-based model offered in standard and Limited forms, while the original SJ continued as the Grand Wagoneer until 1991. The compact Wagoneer was positioned as a more upmarket, family-oriented relative of the Cherokee and remained available through 1990.
Jeep revived the Wagoneer for the 2022 model year as a body-on-frame, three-row full-size SUV. Standard-wheelbase and extended Wagoneer L versions were offered, with seating for up to eight and rear- or four-wheel drive depending on specification. It sat above the Grand Cherokee in size and below the Grand Wagoneer in equipment and pricing, competing with other large family SUVs. Modern models are noted for passenger and cargo space, towing ability, available advanced 4x4 systems and a comfort-focused cabin. Production ended after the 2025 model year as Jeep consolidated its full-size range around the Grand Wagoneer.
