About Jeep Patriot
The Jeep Patriot is a five-door compact crossover SUV introduced for the 2007 model year. Production ended in December 2016, with 2017 as its final model year. Developed alongside the Compass, it adopted a squarer, more traditional Jeep appearance, including round headlamps, a seven-slot grille and trapezoidal wheel arches. It was assembled in Belvidere, Illinois.
The Patriot remained within one generation throughout its production run. A 2011 update brought revised exterior styling, upgraded cabin materials and other refinements, while later changes mainly involved equipment and transmissions. Versions differed by year and market, with Sport, Latitude and Limited among the principal trims. Special editions and higher-specification variants such as High Altitude were also offered.
Most Patriots used four-cylinder engines. Front-wheel drive suited regular road use, while the available Freedom Drive I system provided additional traction in poor conditions. Freedom Drive II added off-road-focused hardware and enabled suitably equipped models to carry Jeep’s Trail Rated designation. Engine, gearbox and diesel availability varied by region.
Within Jeep’s range, the Patriot served as a practical and relatively affordable entry-level SUV. It is known for its upright body, compact size, flexible rear seating and choice of road-oriented or more capable four-wheel-drive configurations. After its retirement, the Compass continued as Jeep’s compact SUV offering.
