About Jeep Grand Commander
The Jeep Grand Commander is a mid-size crossover SUV developed specifically for China. Introduced in 2018, it was produced in Changsha by the GAC Fiat Chrysler joint venture until 2022. It occupied a relatively high position in Jeep’s local range, providing a spacious, family-oriented model above the brand’s compact SUVs.
The main version featured a five-door body, three rows of seats and capacity for seven occupants. A related five-seat variant was initially marketed as the Commander before joining the Grand Commander range. Petrol models used a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations were available, depending on specification.
A five-seat plug-in hybrid joined the line-up in 2019, combining petrol and electric power. This model marked Jeep’s entry into China’s New Energy Vehicle market and was later sold under the Grand Commander name.
The Grand Commander represents one K8 generation, with a facelift introduced for the 2022 model year. It is chiefly known for its roomy cabin, available three-row seating, road-focused crossover construction and recognisable Jeep design. Within the brand’s Chinese line-up, it balanced everyday passenger comfort with the option of all-wheel-drive capability.
