About Jaguar XJR-15

Produced from 1990 to 1992, the Jaguar XJR-15 is a limited-production, mid-engined two-seat supercar developed by JaguarSport, the partnership between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing. It was closely related to Jaguar’s successful Group C competition programme and drew heavily on the Le Mans-winning XJR-9, giving it a more direct racing connection than Jaguar’s regular road cars.

The XJR-15 combined a carbon-composite monocoque and body with a naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 mounted behind the cabin. Road-going cars used a five-speed manual transaxle, independent suspension and a highly focused cockpit. Its lightweight construction was unusually advanced for a road vehicle of the period, while the body designed by Peter Stevens balanced aerodynamic requirements with a distinctive low, rounded shape.

Both road and competition-prepared examples were built. Track versions took part in the one-make JaguarSport Intercontinental Challenge in 1991 and featured equipment suited to circuit use. Production totals vary slightly between sources, but only a few dozen cars were completed.

Within the Jaguar range, the XJR-15 served as an exclusive racing-derived flagship rather than a conventional grand tourer. It is best known for its carbon construction, V12 power, rarity and close technical relationship to Jaguar’s endurance-racing cars.
