About Jaguar XE
The Jaguar XE is a compact executive sports saloon introduced globally in 2015, with North American sales beginning in 2016 for the 2017 model year. Positioned below the larger XF, it gave Jaguar a direct competitor in the premium compact saloon class. Production ended in 2024 after one generation.
The XE was the first Jaguar developed on the company’s modular aluminium-intensive vehicle architecture. Its front-engine layout, rear-wheel-drive proportions and relatively low seating position reflected the brand’s emphasis on driver involvement, while four doors and a conventional boot provided everyday practicality.
Versions varied by market and model year. The range included turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, an early supercharged V6, rear- or all-wheel drive, and several luxury or sporting trim levels. A substantial update introduced for the 2020 model year brought revised exterior styling, a redesigned cabin, improved materials and newer infotainment technology. The limited-production XE SV Project 8 formed the performance extreme, using a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 and extensive chassis changes.
The XE is particularly known for responsive steering, balanced handling, composed ride quality and understated styling. Within Jaguar’s range, it served as the smallest and most accessible saloon, with a stronger sporting focus than the larger luxury models.
