About Jaguar X-TYPE
The Jaguar X-TYPE is a compact executive car produced from 2001 to 2009. Developed during Jaguar’s Ford ownership, it was built at Halewood in north-west England and became the smallest model in the brand’s range. It was intended to make Jaguar ownership accessible to a wider market while competing with established compact premium cars.
The range began as a four-door saloon and later expanded to include an estate, Jaguar’s first series-production model of this body type. Depending on year and market, buyers could choose petrol V6 or four-cylinder diesel engines, manual or automatic transmissions, and front-wheel or permanent all-wheel drive. Early 2.5- and 3.0-litre V6 versions used the Traction-4 all-wheel-drive system, while lower-priced front-wheel-drive variants broadened the line-up. A substantial facelift arrived in 2007.
The X-TYPE is known for combining traditional Jaguar design cues with more compact dimensions and everyday usability. Its cabin commonly featured classic-style instruments, wood trim and leather according to specification. Saloon versions emphasised comfort and refinement, while the estate added greater luggage capacity and versatility. The model also marked several firsts for Jaguar, including its first diesel-powered production car and first front-wheel-drive model.
