About INFINITI QX50
The INFINITI QX50 is a five-seat compact luxury crossover positioned below the larger QX60. It was designed for buyers seeking manageable urban dimensions and car-like road manners, combined with the elevated seating position, flexible cabin and premium equipment of an SUV.
The QX50 name appeared in 2013 when INFINITI renamed the EX under its revised global naming system. This first generation retained a rear-wheel-drive-based layout, with all-wheel drive available, and used naturally aspirated V6 engines. A longer-wheelbase version was also produced for China. The second generation arrived for the 2019 model year with a new front-wheel-drive-based platform, a roomier interior and a 2.0-litre VC-Turbo four-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable transmission. Front- or all-wheel drive availability varied by year and market.
The model is best known for introducing the first production variable-compression-ratio engine, which adjusts compression according to driving demand. Other notable qualities include a sliding rear seat, useful cargo capacity, curved exterior styling and a broad range of comfort, connectivity and driver-assistance features. North American sales ended after the 2025 model year, while the QX50 remains available in China for 2026 under different regional product plans.
