About Hyundai Veloster
The Hyundai Veloster is a compact, front-wheel-drive hatchback with coupe-inspired styling. Its defining feature is an asymmetrical door layout: one side door for the driver and two on the passenger side, plus a rear liftgate. This gives it a distinctive profile while making the rear seats easier to access than in a conventional two-door coupe.
Launched in 2011, the Veloster occupied a niche between Hyundai’s mainstream compact cars and traditional sports coupes. Two generations were introduced, with the redesigned second generation entering production in 2018. Both were built around bold styling, compact dimensions and an emphasis on accessible, everyday driving enjoyment.
Versions varied by market and model year. The range included standard models, the more powerful Veloster Turbo and sport-oriented derivatives such as the R-Spec. The second generation also produced the Veloster N, Hyundai’s first N performance model for the United States. It added substantial engine, chassis, braking and suspension upgrades, with manual and later dual-clutch transmission options.
The Veloster became known for unconventional design, practical hatchback versatility and a stronger enthusiast focus than most Hyundai compact cars. Its final US model year was 2022, after which Hyundai shifted its N range towards the Elantra N and Kona N.
