About Hyundai Trajet

The Hyundai Trajet is a large multi-purpose vehicle introduced in 1999, initially under the Trajet XG name in South Korea. It marked Hyundai’s entry into the passenger-car-based MPV segment and was developed primarily for families needing more seating and luggage capacity than a conventional saloon or estate could provide.

Produced in a single main generation, commonly identified by the FO model code, the Trajet remained available into the late 2000s. Updates during its production run brought revised exterior details, equipment and powertrain changes rather than a completely new generation. Most versions used a five-door body with three rows of seats and capacity for up to seven occupants.

Engine availability varied by country and model year. The range included 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and turbo-diesel units, as well as a 2.7-litre V6 petrol engine in selected markets. LPG-powered versions were also offered in some regions. Manual and automatic transmissions were available, with front-wheel drive used for mainstream models.

Within Hyundai’s range, the Trajet was positioned as a family-focused alternative to the more commercial H-1 van and minibus. It became known for its spacious cabin, flexible seating, broad equipment levels and value-oriented market position. The model was sold across South Korea, Europe and several other export markets.
