About Hyundai Santa Fe
The Hyundai Santa Fe is a midsize crossover SUV introduced in 2000. It was Hyundai’s first SUV and helped establish the South Korean brand in the global utility-vehicle market. Named after Santa Fe, New Mexico, it has since become one of Hyundai’s longest-running model lines.
Five generations have been produced, with each bringing changes in size, design, safety and technology. Earlier models were mainly practical five-seat vehicles, while later generations expanded the range with six- and seven-seat layouts. In some markets, the third generation included a shorter Santa Fe Sport and a longer three-row version, later known as the Santa Fe XL.
Powertrain availability varies by country and model year. The range has included petrol and diesel engines, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, plus hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. This variety allows the Santa Fe to serve both family transport and general recreational use.
Within Hyundai’s SUV range, the Santa Fe typically sits above the compact Tucson and below the larger Palisade where both are offered. It is known for a spacious cabin, flexible seating, useful cargo capacity and a balance of road comfort and all-weather ability. The fifth generation adopts a boxier design and places greater emphasis on interior space, third-row usability and outdoor-oriented practicality.
