About Hyundai Reina
The Hyundai Reina is a small four-door sedan developed mainly for cost-conscious buyers in emerging markets. It debuted in China in 2017 and was manufactured there by the Beijing Hyundai joint venture. The model was also offered in selected export markets, including the Philippines, while related versions were sold under the Verna name in parts of Latin America.
Positioned below the Accent or Verna in Hyundai’s passenger-car range, the Reina served as an entry-level saloon rather than a global replacement for either model. It used an established Hyundai small-car platform and was produced in a single generation. Its conventional proportions, five-seat cabin and compact exterior dimensions made it suitable for urban travel, while a 2,570 mm wheelbase and 475-litre boot provided useful passenger and luggage space for its class.
The main versions used a naturally aspirated 1.4-litre petrol engine with front-wheel drive. Depending on the market, buyers could choose a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, with trim differences focused mainly on comfort, audio and safety equipment. The Reina is best known for simple engineering, manageable dimensions and practical everyday accommodation. It occupied the affordable end of Hyundai’s sedan lineup, prioritising basic transport and running-cost considerations over strong performance or premium features.
