About Hyundai Genesis
The Hyundai Genesis is a premium executive sedan introduced in 2008. It was Hyundai’s first rear-wheel-drive luxury car and marked a major move into a segment traditionally led by established premium brands. Within Hyundai’s range, it sat above mainstream saloons such as the Sonata and Grandeur/Azera, and below the larger Equus where both were offered.
Two generations were produced under the Hyundai name. The first-generation BH established the model’s emphasis on comfort, refinement and generous equipment. The second-generation DH arrived in 2013, reaching North America for the 2015 model year with a new platform, more advanced safety technology and optional HTRAC all-wheel drive.
Powertrain availability differed by country, but the range was mainly built around V6 and V8 petrol engines with automatic transmissions. Notable versions included the performance-oriented 5.0 R-Spec in North America and the limited-production Genesis Prada in South Korea.
The Genesis became known for its spacious cabin, quiet ride, strong equipment levels and restrained styling. It also won the 2009 North American Car of the Year award. Following the creation of Genesis as a separate luxury brand in 2015, the second-generation sedan continued from 2016 under the Genesis G80 name.
