About Hyundai Eon
The Hyundai Eon is a five-door, front-wheel-drive city hatchback developed as an entry-level model for price-sensitive markets. Introduced in India in 2011, it was produced mainly at Hyundai’s Chennai plant for domestic sales and export. Assembly also took place in the Philippines. Production ended in 2019.
Sold through a single generation, the Eon occupied the smallest and most affordable end of Hyundai’s passenger-car range, below models such as the Santro and i10. It was offered across parts of Asia, Latin America and other emerging markets, sometimes under the Hyundai Atos Eon name. Its main role was to provide basic family transport and an accessible first step into Hyundai ownership.
Most versions used an 814 cc three-cylinder petrol engine with a five-speed manual transmission. Selected markets also received LPG variants, while a more powerful 998 cc three-cylinder Kappa petrol option broadened the range later in production. Equipment differed by market and trim, with higher versions adding features such as power windows, audio systems, central locking and a driver airbag.
The Eon is chiefly known for its compact dimensions, light weight, simple mechanical layout and suitability for crowded urban roads. Its styling was more sculpted than many basic cars of its period, while its small footprint supported easy manoeuvring and economical everyday use.
