About Hyundai Accent
The Hyundai Accent is a small passenger car introduced in 1994 as the successor to the Excel. It has traditionally occupied the affordable end of Hyundai’s car range, usually below the Elantra, and has served as an entry point to the brand in many markets. Depending on the country and generation, it may be described as a subcompact or compact car.
Across six generations, the Accent has appeared mainly as a four-door sedan, with three-door and five-door hatchbacks offered during various periods. Regional names and specifications differ. The Verna name is used for related versions in India and some other markets, while engines, transmissions, trim levels and safety equipment vary by location.
The Accent has played an important role in Hyundai’s international production and localisation strategy, with versions adapted for markets across Asia, the Americas, the Middle East and Europe. It was discontinued in the United States after the 2022 model year, but newer sedan versions continue in selected markets, including the sixth generation introduced in 2023.
The model is known for practical dimensions, straightforward controls, economical four-cylinder engines and useful passenger and luggage space. Later generations added more refined styling, improved cabin technology and broader driver-assistance features while retaining the value-focused character central to the Accent’s position in Hyundai’s lineup.
