About Honda Zest
The Honda Zest is a compact five-door kei car developed primarily for the Japanese market. Introduced in March 2006, it was designed for everyday family use, shopping and leisure, combining the small exterior dimensions required by Japan’s kei regulations with a tall, practical cabin.
The Zest occupied a utility-focused position in Honda’s minicar range. Its low-floor platform provided generous interior height, a large cargo area and a low tailgate opening, making loading easier. The flexible seating and wide-opening doors further supported its role as a practical urban vehicle.
Honda offered the Zest with 660 cc three-cylinder petrol engines in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. A four-speed automatic transmission was standard, while buyers could choose front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Trim levels varied during its life, with the Zest Sport adding more assertive styling and sport-oriented details.
A major update arrived in December 2008, when Honda introduced the Zest Spark. This variation featured a more distinctive front design and became the model’s bolder-looking alternative, while the standard Zest retained a simpler appearance. Accessible versions with a lifting passenger seat or wheelchair accommodation were also available.
The Zest remained a single-generation model until November 2012. It is chiefly known for efficient packaging, useful cargo capacity, easy access and the combination of kei-car manoeuvrability with family-oriented versatility.
