About Honda WR-V
The Honda WR-V is a five-seat compact crossover developed mainly for regional markets. The name stands for “Winsome Runabout Vehicle”. It is positioned at the smaller, more accessible end of Honda’s SUV range, below models such as the HR-V/Vezel and CR-V.
The original WR-V was unveiled in Brazil in 2016 and entered production in 2017. Developed primarily for South America and India, it used the Honda Jazz/Fit platform but added a raised ride height, SUV-inspired styling and a more rugged suspension setup. Engine and transmission choices varied by market, including petrol and diesel versions in India. A facelift followed during the model’s production run.
A substantially different WR-V made its world debut in Indonesia in 2022. Developed from the SUV RS Concept, this generation is a purpose-designed small SUV and has been offered in several Southeast Asian markets. Depending on the country and trim, versions include standard models, sportier RS variants and editions equipped with Honda Sensing driver-assistance technology.
The WR-V name is also used in Japan for the India-built Honda Elevate, launched there in 2024. Across its variations, the model is known for compact exterior dimensions, useful cabin and luggage space, elevated ground clearance and straightforward everyday usability.
