About Honda Vigor
The Honda Vigor was an upper-compact to midsize passenger car produced in Japan from 1981 to 1995. Initially developed as a better-equipped, more distinctive relative of the Accord, it gave Honda a more premium offering before the Legend became the brand’s flagship. The Vigor was sold mainly through Honda’s Verno dealership network in Japan.
Three generations were produced. The first was available as a four-door saloon and three-door hatchback, while the second adopted a saloon-only range and continued the model’s upmarket Accord-based formula. Equipment and engine choices varied by year and market, with four-cylinder petrol engines used in these earlier versions.
The third generation, introduced in 1989, established a clearer identity. Closely related to the Honda Inspire, it featured a long-wheelbase four-door body, front-wheel drive and an unusual longitudinally mounted inline five-cylinder engine. Japanese versions included 2.0- and 2.5-litre variations. In North America, the car was sold as the Acura Vigor for the 1992–1994 model years, positioned between the Integra and Legend and offered in LS and GS trims with a 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine.
The Vigor is best known for combining Honda’s engineering-led approach with restrained premium styling, a refined cabin and an unconventional powertrain layout. It was succeeded by the Honda Saber and Inspire in Japan, while the Acura TL took over its role in North America.
