About Honda Passport
The Honda Passport is a two-row midsize SUV positioned between the smaller CR-V and the three-row Pilot. It is intended for buyers who want more passenger and cargo space than a compact crossover without a third row, while retaining useful towing ability and capability on unpaved roads.
Introduced for the 1994 model year, the original Passport was Honda’s first SUV in the United States. Its first two generations were closely based on the Isuzu Rodeo and used body-on-frame construction. Production ended after 2002, and the nameplate remained absent until Honda introduced a new, independently developed Passport for the 2019 model year.
The revived unibody model shared its basic architecture and V6 powertrain with other Honda light trucks. Built in Alabama, it occupied a more rugged, adventure-focused position than the CR-V while offering a shorter, five-seat alternative to the Pilot. Versions included road-oriented trims and the TrailSport, which added distinctive styling and equipment for rough-road use.
A fully redesigned fourth generation arrived for the 2026 model year. The range includes RTL, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite variants, all with a V6 engine and all-wheel drive. The Passport is known for its spacious cabin, generous cargo area, practical storage, comfortable road manners and a balance of everyday usability with moderate off-road capability.
