About Honda Partner

The Honda Partner is a compact commercial wagon developed mainly for business users in Japan. Sold from 1996 to 2010, it combined the cargo capacity and durability expected of a light commercial vehicle with the driving manners, enclosed body and five-door access of a passenger-car-based estate. Within Honda’s range, it served as a practical alternative to taller vans for deliveries, service work and company transport.

Two generations were produced. The first, offered from March 1996 to February 2006, was closely related to the Honda Orthia. Depending on specification, it used 1.3-, 1.5- or 1.6-litre petrol engines, with front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and manual or automatic transmissions. Trim levels and equipment varied during its long production run.

The second generation arrived in March 2006 and was based on the Honda Airwave. It used a 1.5-litre i-DSI petrol engine with a five-speed automatic transmission, while four-wheel-drive versions joined the range later in 2006. EL and GL were the principal grades. Honda’s centre-tank layout helped create a low, flat and adaptable cargo area, and the rear seats could be folded or repositioned for different loads. The Partner is chiefly known for efficient packaging, straightforward mechanical design, useful carrying ability and more car-like comfort than many traditional commercial vans.
