About Honda NSX
The Honda NSX is a two-seat, mid-engine sports car developed as the brand’s technological flagship. Introduced in Japan in 1990 and sold as an Acura in North America, it was designed to combine supercar performance with everyday usability, good visibility and predictable handling. Low-volume production and advanced construction placed it above Honda’s mainstream models.
The first generation, produced until 2005, used naturally aspirated V6 engines, rear-wheel drive and an aluminium monocoque body—an important production-car innovation at the time. It was offered as a fixed-roof coupé and the open-roof NSX-T, with manual or automatic transmissions depending on version and market. Performance-focused derivatives included the NSX-R, later known as the Type R, and the Type S.
A second generation entered production in 2016 after a long gap. Built in Ohio, USA, it adopted a twin-turbocharged V6, three electric motors, a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive. This hybrid layout shifted the NSX from a relatively simple analogue sports car to a more complex modern supercar while retaining its driver-centred approach. Production ended in 2022 with the limited Type S. Across both generations, the NSX is known for technical ambition, balanced handling, distinctive engineering and its role as Honda’s highest-performance road car.
