About Honda MDX
The Honda MDX was a large premium crossover SUV sold in selected markets during the early to mid-2000s. It was the Honda-badged version of a model developed primarily for Acura, Honda’s luxury division in North America. The vehicle entered the Japanese and Australian markets in 2003 and was built in Ontario, Canada.
Only the first-generation MDX was officially offered with Honda badges. Later generations continued under the Acura brand rather than becoming part of Honda’s regular global range. Japanese-market examples were sold in a high-specification Exclusive version, while equipment and model-year updates varied by market.
Designed as a three-row, seven-seat family vehicle, the MDX combined a car-based body with the space and raised driving position of a large SUV. It used a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, a five-speed automatic transmission and Honda’s VTM-4 electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system. Flexible folding seats provided a choice between passenger capacity and cargo space.
Within Honda’s lineup, the MDX sat above compact SUVs such as the CR-V and targeted buyers seeking more room, power and comfort. It is known for its smooth V6 performance, practical cabin, substantial standard equipment and road-focused handling. Its size, fuel use and premium positioning limited its appeal in some markets, making the Honda-badged version relatively uncommon today.
