About Honda Legend

The Honda Legend was Honda’s flagship executive car, introduced in Japan in 1985 to give the brand a presence above the Accord in the premium market. Developed during Honda’s collaboration with Britain’s Austin Rover, the first Legend was also significant as Honda’s first production model powered by a V6 engine.

The range evolved through five generations and remained in production until 2021, with a break between the fourth and fifth generations. Most versions were four-door sedans, while two-door coupes were offered during the first two generations. Depending on the model and market, the Legend used front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Related vehicles were sold in North America as the Acura Legend, RL and RLX.

The Legend was known primarily for its role as a technology showcase. It combined a spacious, refined cabin with smooth V6 performance and an emphasis on comfort, quietness and stability. The fourth generation introduced Honda’s SH-AWD system, while the fifth paired a V6 petrol engine with a three-motor Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system.

Late models also featured some of Honda’s most advanced driver-assistance technology. In 2021, a limited-production Japanese version with Honda Sensing Elite offered Level 3 conditional automated driving under specific conditions, reinforcing the Legend’s position at the top of Honda’s passenger-car range.
