About Honda e

The Honda e is a compact five-door battery-electric hatchback developed mainly for urban use. Previewed by the Urban EV Concept in 2017 and revealed in production form in 2019, it reached selected European markets and Japan in 2020. It was Honda’s first production battery-electric car for Europe and an early showcase for the brand’s electrification strategy.

The model remained in its first generation throughout a short production run, which ended in January 2024. Depending on the market, versions included the standard Honda e and the better-equipped Honda e Advance. Both used a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, while motor output varied by specification, with the Advance producing up to 154 PS.

Unlike most small hatchbacks, the Honda e used a rear-mounted motor and rear-wheel drive. Its compact body, tight turning circle and responsive electric powertrain suited congested streets. Its modest driving range made it more suitable for commuting and local journeys than regular long-distance travel.

The Honda e is known for its clean, retro-influenced exterior, flush door handles, camera-based side mirrors and screen-filled cabin. A wide digital dashboard used five displays, giving the interior a distinctive technology-focused layout. Within Honda’s range, it occupied the role of a specialised urban EV rather than a mainstream high-volume model, combining agile handling and unusual design with limited cargo space and range compared with larger electric cars.
