About Honda City
The Honda City name first appeared in Japan in 1981 on a compact three-door hatchback with a space-efficient “Tall Boy” design. The modern City line began in Thailand in 1996 as a four-door family sedan developed primarily for Asian markets. It later expanded into Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, becoming one of Honda’s core regional passenger cars.
The sedan-based City has evolved through several generations, although numbering differs by country because some markets count the 1996 model as the first generation. The current global family stems from the model introduced in 2019. Most versions are four-door sedans, while a five-door City Hatchback is sold in selected countries.
Powertrains and grades vary by market and model year. The range has included naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines, diesel versions in some earlier markets, and Honda’s two-motor e:HEV hybrid system. RS trims generally add sportier styling and equipment.
Within Honda’s lineup, the City usually serves as a subcompact or B-segment model below the Civic where both are offered. It is known for efficient interior packaging, a spacious cabin and luggage area, economical operation, easy urban driving and a practical balance of comfort and everyday usability.
