About Honda Ascot

The Honda Ascot was a Japanese-market mid-size passenger car introduced in 1989. It occupied a more formal and comfort-oriented position alongside the Accord, combining familiar Honda engineering with distinct exterior styling and a higher-grade presentation.

The first-generation Ascot was a four-door sedan closely related to the fourth-generation Accord. Its defining features included a six-window cabin, front-wheel drive and four-wheel double-wishbone suspension. Depending on specification, it used 1.8- or 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, while selected versions offered Honda’s four-wheel-steering system.

Honda expanded the range in 1992 with the Ascot Innova. This separate four-door hardtop variation had a lower, more flowing profile and used 2.0- and 2.3-litre four-cylinder engines. It was intended to combine a sportier appearance with practical passenger space.

A substantially different second-generation Ascot arrived in 1993 and was sold alongside the closely related Honda Rafaga. It adopted a relatively tall, compact sedan body and Honda’s unusual front-wheel-drive “FF Midship” layout, with a longitudinally installed inline-five engine. Buyers could choose between 2.0- and 2.5-litre versions.

Produced until the late 1990s, the Ascot is best known for its unconventional engineering, spacious packaging and understated comfort. It represents a period when Honda offered several closely positioned sedans with distinct styling and mechanical identities.
