About Honda Airwave
The Honda Airwave is a compact five-door station wagon produced in Japan from 2005 to 2010. Developed mainly for the Japanese domestic market, it combined the manageable dimensions of a small car with greater cargo capacity and versatility. Within Honda’s range, it offered a practical alternative to the Fit hatchback and a smaller, more economical option than the brand’s larger wagons and minivans.
Only one generation was produced, under the GJ1 and GJ2 model codes. The Airwave used Honda’s centre-mounted fuel tank layout, creating a low floor, flexible rear seating and a spacious luggage area. A large panoramic glass Sky Roof was available and became one of the model’s most distinctive features.
Power came from a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a continuously variable transmission. Buyers could choose front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, depending on specification. Early versions included G and L grades, with Sky Roof packages offered on both. The range was later reorganised, and a 2008 update introduced revised styling and an ST version with sportier exterior details.
The Airwave is known for efficient packaging, good outward visibility and useful carrying ability in a relatively narrow body. It occupied a practical lifestyle-wagon position in Honda’s lineup and was followed by the Fit Shuttle, which developed a similar compact wagon concept.
