About GMC Terrain
The GMC Terrain is a two-row, five-seat crossover SUV introduced for the 2010 model year. It gave GMC a smaller, more road-focused alternative to its traditional trucks and larger SUVs. Initially classed as a mid-size crossover, the Terrain became a compact SUV with the launch of its smaller second generation for 2018.
Three generations have been produced. The first established the model’s upright styling and offered SLE and SLT versions, with the more luxurious Denali added later. The second generation adopted lighter proportions, turbocharged engines and broader technology options; AT4 joined the range as a ruggedly styled variation. The third generation arrived for 2025, initially in Elevation form, followed by AT4 and Denali versions for 2026.
Terrain serves as the entry point to GMC’s SUV range, positioned below the larger Acadia. It shares core engineering with the Chevrolet Equinox but has distinct GMC design, equipment and trim choices. Current models are assembled at General Motors’ San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.
The Terrain is known for combining manageable exterior dimensions with a practical cabin, flexible cargo space and available all-wheel drive. Elevation targets mainstream use, AT4 adds off-road-oriented hardware and styling, and Denali focuses on additional comfort and premium detailing.
