About GMC T-Series

The GMC T-Series was a range of low-cab-forward commercial trucks sold in North America from the late 1990s through the 2009 model year. Developed through General Motors’ partnership with Isuzu, it combined an Isuzu Forward-derived tilt cab with a GM medium-duty chassis. It occupied the heavier end of GMC’s cab-over range, above the smaller W-Series and alongside the conventional-cab TopKick.

The T-Series was supplied mainly as a chassis cab for vocational bodies such as box vans, utility trucks, recovery vehicles and construction equipment. Its cab-over layout provided a relatively short footprint, wide forward visibility and good manoeuvrability. The tilting cab also simplified access for major engine service.

The range comprised one main North American generation, with updates during its production run. Principal versions were the T6500, T7500 and T8500, covering Class 6, Class 7 and Class 8 ratings. Single-rear-axle regular cabs formed the core line-up, while the T8500 was also available with tandem rear axles for heavier work. Multiple wheelbases supported bodies from about 10 to 32 feet long. Later models used an Isuzu 7.8-litre inline-six turbo-diesel, with Allison automatic and Eaton-Fuller manual transmissions offered according to specification. The T-Series is chiefly known for practical packaging, body-mounting flexibility and suitability for demanding commercial duties.
