About Geo Storm

The Geo Storm was a compact, front-wheel-drive sport model sold for the 1990–1993 model years. Manufactured in Japan by Isuzu and closely related to the second-generation Isuzu Impulse, it was marketed through General Motors’ Geo division. Within a range centred on small, value-focused vehicles, the Storm served as the distinctly sporty choice, combining coupe-like styling with four-cylinder economy.

Most examples have a low, three-door liftback body with 2+2 seating. A taller hatchback variation, commonly called the Wagonback, added a more practical roofline and cargo area. Base versions prioritised affordability, while the GSi offered a more powerful twin-cam engine and sport-oriented chassis tuning. Early GSi models used a 1.6-litre engine, replaced by a 1.8-litre unit for 1992 and 1993. Manual and automatic transmissions were available, depending on model and year.

The Storm is known for its distinctive rounded styling, compact dimensions and unusual blend of everyday hatchback utility and accessible sporting character. It did not receive the turbocharged engine or all-wheel-drive system offered on some Isuzu Impulse versions, remaining a simpler and less expensive alternative. Its short production run and recognisable early-1990s design now make it one of the more distinctive models associated with the Geo brand.
