About Ford Windstar
The Ford Windstar was Ford’s front-wheel-drive minivan for the 1995–2003 model years. Introduced as a more car-like alternative to the rear-wheel-drive Aerostar, it used unibody construction and focused on family transport. The two models overlapped through 1997, after which the Windstar became Ford’s principal minivan. It was replaced for 2004 by the Ford Freestar.
The first generation covered 1995–1998, while a fully redesigned second generation ran from 1999–2003. The Windstar was offered as a long-wheelbase passenger model and, in some years, as a cargo van. Depending on model year, the range included base versions and trims such as GL, LX, SE, SEL and Limited. V6 petrol engines, front-wheel drive and seating for up to seven occupants were central to the range.
The Windstar is known for its roomy cabin, passenger-car-style driving layout and practical family-oriented design. The 1999 redesign added a driver-side sliding door, providing access from both sides, while upper trims offered additional comfort and convenience equipment. Within Ford’s lineup, it sat below full-size vans as a more manageable everyday people carrier and competed in the mainstream minivan segment.
