About Ford Territory
The Ford Territory is a crossover SUV nameplate used for two distinct model families. The original was designed and built by Ford Australia from 2004 to 2016. Developed partly from Falcon architecture, it combined passenger-car road manners with SUV practicality. It offered five- or seven-seat layouts, rear- or all-wheel drive, and six-cylinder petrol or later turbo-diesel power. Series included SX, SY and the extensively updated SZ, with TX, TS, Ghia and Titanium among the principal grades.
Ford revived the name in China in 2018 for a different midsize crossover developed with Jiangling Motors Corporation. This model later reached markets across Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. An all-new iteration followed from 2022 in several regions, maintaining a two-row, five-seat format and a mainly front-wheel-drive configuration. Depending on market and model year, versions use turbocharged petrol or hybrid powertrains, with trim names varying by country.
Within Ford’s international SUV range, the Territory is generally positioned as a practical family crossover, above the smallest urban SUVs and below larger three-row or more off-road-focused models. It is known for a spacious cabin, useful luggage capacity, comfortable road manners, connectivity features and driver-assistance technology. Australian-built and later JMC-developed Territory models are separate vehicle families despite sharing the same name.
