About Ford Pampa
Ford Pampa was a compact, car-derived pickup developed and built by Ford do Brasil from 1982 to 1997. Based on the second-generation Corcel, it joined the Corcel and Belina family while sharing some styling and trim features with the more upmarket Del Rey. It was Ford’s practical entry in Brazil’s light-pickup class and was described by the company as the country’s first pickup derived from a mid-size car.
The Pampa was not divided into separate generations, but it received regular mechanical, styling and equipment updates during its 15-year production run. Early models used a 1.6-litre engine, while 1.8-litre versions arrived in 1990. The range included L, GL and better-equipped Ghia trims, followed by the sportier S in 1991. Front-wheel-drive models formed the core of the line, while distinctive 4x4 variants offered additional traction for rural and poor-road use until 1995.
Known for combining passenger-car comfort with a useful cargo bed and practical carrying ability, the Pampa appealed to small businesses, farms and private owners. It led its Brazilian category throughout its production life, with more than 380,000 units sold. Its mix of work-focused, luxury, sporty and four-wheel-drive versions made it one of Ford Brazil’s most recognisable compact utilities. Production ended in 1997, with the Fiesta-based Courier succeeding it in Ford’s regional pickup range.
