About Ford Ka

The Ford Ka is a front-wheel-drive small car introduced in 1996 as Ford’s entry-level model below the Fiesta. Produced across three main generations until 2021, it was aimed primarily at urban drivers seeking compact dimensions, straightforward operation and affordable ownership. Sales periods and specifications varied by market.

The original Ka was a three-door city car known for its distinctive rounded styling and agile handling. Its range later included the sportier SportKa hatchback and the two-seat StreetKa convertible, giving the model a broader character than many basic city cars.

A second-generation European Ka arrived in 2008. It remained a three-door hatchback but used architecture shared with the Fiat 500 and was built in Tychy, Poland. Ford applied its own styling, chassis tuning and equipment. Brazil and some other markets followed separate product cycles, so vehicles of similar age may differ considerably by region.

The third generation appeared in Brazil in 2014 and reached Europe as the Ka+ in 2016. It moved towards the larger subcompact class, with five doors, seating for five and more practical cabin space. A four-door saloon was offered in selected markets, while the raised Ka+ Active added crossover-inspired styling.

Throughout its life, the Ka occupied the accessible end of Ford’s passenger-car range. It is chiefly known for easy urban manoeuvrability, economical small-car design and, in later versions, improved everyday practicality.
