About Ford Freestar
The Ford Freestar is a front-wheel-drive minivan sold for the 2004 to 2007 model years. It replaced the Windstar in Ford’s North American range and was built in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Although the new name suggested a separate product line, the Freestar represented a substantial update of Ford’s established minivan platform rather than a completely new design.
Offered in a single generation, the Freestar was aimed mainly at families and fleet operators needing generous passenger and cargo capacity. Passenger models typically provided three-row seating for up to seven people, dual sliding rear doors and a third-row seat that could fold into the floor. A cargo version was also available for commercial use. Depending on model year, trim levels included S, SE, SES, SEL and Limited, ranging from basic transport to more extensively equipped versions.
Power came from 3.9-litre or 4.2-litre V6 engines paired with an automatic transmission. The Freestar is best known for its roomy cabin, flexible seating and conventional minivan layout. It had a relatively short market life, ending as Ford shifted its North American family-vehicle strategy away from traditional minivans and towards crossovers.
