About Ford Focus
The Ford Focus is a compact family car introduced in Europe in 1998 as the successor to the Escort. It became a core Ford passenger model, positioned in the C-segment between the smaller Fiesta and larger Mondeo. Depending on market and generation, body styles included three- and five-door hatchbacks, saloons, estates, a coupé-cabriolet and a North American two-door coupé.
Four main generations were produced. The first combined Ford’s distinctive New Edge design with responsive handling, helping establish qualities that remained central to the model. Later versions added more comfort, safety, connectivity and efficiency. The fourth generation arrived in 2018 with hatchback, estate and selected saloon variants, alongside the crossover-inspired Active and trim lines such as Titanium and ST-Line.
Performance models formed an important part of the range. The ST offered hot-hatch capability, while earlier generations also included the more specialised RS. Other variations included regional saloons and later European mild-hybrid powertrains.
The Focus was known as a practical mainstream alternative to other compact cars, with balanced road manners, useful passenger and luggage space, and a broad choice of engines and specifications. European production ended in November 2025 after 27 years, completing a four-generation run.
