About Ford Fiera
The Ford Fiera was a locally produced Asian Utility Vehicle developed for the Philippine market in the early 1970s. Created within a government programme that encouraged local parts and assembly, it offered practical transport for families, businesses and public-service operators. Its simple, boxy construction prioritised carrying capacity, durability and straightforward maintenance over passenger-car refinement.
Several iterations appeared, commonly identified as the Fiera I through IV. Body configurations included chassis-cab, low- and high-side pickups, delivery vans and jeepney-style passenger vehicles, often with locally built bodies. Early versions used Ford of Europe mechanical components, including engines related to those in the Escort, while a Perkins diesel became available on the Fiera II. Later models adopted components associated with Ford’s Mazda-based light commercial vehicles. The final generation added more modern styling, improved braking and available five-speed diesel versions, while XLT variants provided extra equipment and a more car-like appearance.
The Fiera competed with utility models such as the Toyota Tamaraw and became one of the defining early AUVs in the Philippines. It was known as an adaptable, rugged workhorse suited to mixed passenger and cargo duties. Production ended around Ford’s withdrawal from the Philippine market in 1984, leaving the Fiera as a notable model in the brand’s regional commercial-vehicle history.
