About Ford F-150 Lightning
The Ford F-150 Lightning is a full-size battery-electric pickup developed as the electric counterpart to the conventional F-150. Revealed in 2021 and launched for the 2022 model year, it adapted the established F-Series format rather than creating a separate lifestyle vehicle. Ford built it at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan. Production of this battery-electric generation ended in 2025.
The model comprised one generation, offered as a four-door SuperCrew with a short cargo bed, dual electric motors and four-wheel drive. Depending on model year, versions included the work-focused Pro and XLT, the technology-oriented Flash, and the more highly equipped Lariat and Platinum. Standard- and extended-range battery configurations allowed buyers to balance price, driving range and capability.
Within Ford’s lineup, the Lightning served as the electric flagship of the F-150 family and an early electric full-size pickup from an established US truck manufacturer. It is known for immediate acceleration, quiet operation and independent rear suspension while retaining useful towing and payload capacity. Notable features include a large lockable front storage compartment, onboard electrical outlets and available equipment for supplying backup power to a suitably configured home.
