About Ford Expedition
The Ford Expedition is a full-size, body-on-frame SUV introduced for the 1997 model year. It replaced the full-size two-door Bronco in Ford’s range, responding to demand for a larger, family-oriented four-door vehicle. Developed from Ford F-Series truck architecture, it combines three-row passenger accommodation with substantial cargo and towing capability.
The Expedition has progressed through five generations. Successive redesigns have added more refined road manners, updated safety and infotainment technology, and increasingly efficient turbocharged powertrains while retaining its truck-based construction. The fifth generation arrived for the 2025 model year. Production takes place at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, alongside other large Ford and Lincoln vehicles.
Standard-wheelbase models balance passenger space with manageable overall length, while the extended Expedition MAX provides additional cargo room. The range includes mainstream Active versions, off-road-oriented Tremor models, and more richly equipped Platinum and King Ranch variants. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are offered, depending on specification.
Positioned above the Explorer as Ford’s largest passenger SUV, the Expedition is known for its spacious cabin, strong towing ability, long-distance comfort and versatility for large families.
