About Ford Excursion

The Ford Excursion is a heavy-duty, full-size SUV produced for the 2000–2005 model years. Developed from Ford’s Super Duty pickup architecture, it was larger and more truck-focused than the Expedition, placing it at the top of Ford’s SUV range. Its body-on-frame construction, substantial interior and strong towing capability suited large families, cargo and trailer use.

Ford offered the Excursion in a single generation, with rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations. Depending on model year, trim levels included XLS, XLT, Limited and Eddie Bauer versions, ranging from practical specifications to leather-trimmed, comfort-oriented models. Seating layouts accommodated up to nine occupants, while a three-part rear door provided cargo-area access.

Engine choices reflected its Super Duty roots. The range included a 5.4-litre Triton V8, a 6.8-litre Triton V10 and Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8 options: initially a 7.3-litre unit and later a 6.0-litre engine. Automatic transmissions were standard.

The Excursion is best known for its exceptional size, spacious three-row cabin and ability to combine passenger transport with pickup-based capability. It occupied a specialised position alongside the Expedition, and Ford ended production after one generation.
