About Ford Edge
The Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover SUV introduced in North America for the 2007 model year. It was developed as a road-focused alternative to traditional body-on-frame SUVs, combining a raised driving position and practical cargo area with car-like ride and handling. In Ford’s range, it generally sat between the compact Escape or Kuga and the larger, three-row Explorer.
Two main generations were sold in North America. The first covered the 2007–2014 model years, while the second arrived for 2015 and continued through 2024. The later Edge also reached Europe, the Middle East and other regions, although engines and trim names varied. Versions included SE, SEL and Titanium, along with Sport, ST and ST-Line variants. Depending on the market and model year, buyers could find front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, plus four-cylinder, V6 petrol and diesel engines.
The Edge is best known as a spacious five-seat SUV rather than a three-row family vehicle. Notable qualities include its broad cabin, useful luggage space, comfortable road manners and available turbocharged performance. Ford ended the North American Edge after 2024. The name continues on the larger Edge L, a distinct seven-seat model offered in China with petrol and hybrid powertrains.
