About Ford Crown Victoria
The Ford Crown Victoria is a full-size, four-door sedan best known for its traditional body-on-frame construction, rear-wheel drive and V8 power. Introduced as a standalone model for 1992 after the LTD Crown Victoria, it occupied the upper end of Ford’s North American passenger-car range and was larger than the Taurus. Production took place at Ford’s St. Thomas Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, and ended in September 2011.
Two main generations were offered: the rounded 1992–1997 model and the extensively redesigned 1998–2011 version. Both used Ford’s Panther platform and a 4.6-litre V8 with an automatic transmission. Equipment, styling and chassis details evolved over time, including substantial suspension, steering and frame revisions for 2003.
Retail versions included standard and better-equipped LX models, with the LX Sport adding a more performance-oriented specification. Fleet variants became especially important later in production. The purpose-built Police Interceptor was widely used by North American law-enforcement agencies, while taxi and long-wheelbase versions served commercial and export markets.
The Crown Victoria is recognised for its roomy cabin, large boot, comfortable ride and durable, relatively straightforward mechanical layout. Its long fleet career and conventional engineering gave it a distinctive position among modern Ford sedans.
