About Ford Courier
Ford Courier is a long-running nameplate used for several distinct light commercial vehicles rather than one continuous global model. It first appeared in North America from 1952 to 1960 on a sedan delivery based on Ford passenger cars, combining an enclosed cargo area with conventional car styling.
The name returned for the 1972 model year on a compact pickup derived from the Mazda B-Series. This version gave Ford an entry below its full-size trucks and was replaced by the Ranger in North America for 1983. Courier pickups continued through several generations in markets including Australia and New Zealand, with two- or four-wheel drive and regular, extended or four-door cab configurations offered depending on year and region.
In Europe, the Courier name identified a Fiesta-based compact van from 1991 to 2002. Cargo and passenger-carrying Kombi versions provided a smaller alternative to Ford’s larger commercial vehicles. In Brazil, a separate Fiesta-based coupe utility was produced from 1998 to 2013 and sold in several Latin American markets.
Across its varied forms, the Courier is known for compact dimensions, practical load capacity and straightforward construction. Its former roles were largely absorbed by the Ranger and Transit families, while the Transit Courier later revived the name within Ford’s smallest van class.
