About Ford Bronco New Energy
The Ford Bronco New Energy is a China-developed, five-seat SUV that brings the Bronco name into Ford’s electrified range. Revealed in 2025 and placed into production by the JMC-Ford joint venture in December that year, it is a separate model from the body-on-frame Bronco sold in other markets. In China, it is marketed as the Ford Bronco Basecamp, or Zhiqu Bronco.
Only one generation has been produced. The range includes battery-electric and extended-range electric versions, both with all-wheel drive. The electric model uses a large battery and has a claimed CLTC range of up to 650 km. The extended-range version combines electric drive with a 1.5-litre petrol generator, providing up to 220 km of electric range and 1,220 km of combined CLTC range. Several equipment grades vary the comfort, technology and off-road hardware.
Within Ford’s Chinese line-up, the Bronco New Energy sits between conventional family crossovers and dedicated off-road vehicles. Its large, box-shaped body, rear-mounted spare wheel and Bronco-inspired detailing give it a rugged appearance, while an independent suspension and technology-rich cabin support everyday use. Notable features include camping-oriented interior arrangements, external power supply capability, available differential locks and driver-assistance sensors. It is primarily known for combining outdoor-focused design with electric propulsion, long claimed range and practical touring features.
