About Ford Aspire
The Ford Aspire name has been used for two distinct small-car lines rather than one continuous global model family. In North America, it identified an entry-level hatchback sold from 1994 to 1997 as the successor to the Festiva. Built in South Korea by Kia and related to the Kia Avella, this Aspire was offered in three- and five-door forms.
The North American model used a 1.3-litre petrol engine with manual or automatic transmission. Base and better-equipped SE versions were available. It occupied the most affordable end of Ford’s passenger-car range and was known mainly for compact dimensions, simple mechanicals, economical operation and practical hatchback packaging.
Ford revived the name in India in 2015 for the Figo Aspire, later called simply Aspire. This was a sub-four-metre compact saloon developed alongside the second-generation Figo hatchback and manufactured at Ford’s Sanand plant. It served as Ford’s small saloon offering in India and was also produced for export markets.
The Indian Aspire received a substantial update in 2018 rather than a complete generational change. Depending on model year, it offered petrol and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, and several equipment grades. Notable qualities included a spacious cabin for its size, a separate boot, responsive handling and the availability of features such as SYNC connectivity and up to six airbags on selected versions. Indian sales ended in 2021 when Ford stopped local vehicle production.
