About FIAT Viaggio
The FIAT Viaggio is a compact four-door, five-seat saloon developed mainly for the Chinese market. Unveiled at the 2012 Beijing International Auto Show, it entered local production and sales later that year. Known in China as Fei Xiang, it was manufactured in Changsha by the GAC Fiat joint venture and was the partnership’s first locally produced vehicle.
The Viaggio uses Fiat Chrysler’s Compact US Wide architecture, also used as the basis for the contemporary Dodge Dart. Its exterior was styled by Fiat’s design centre in Turin. A relatively long wheelbase and wide body provided a spacious cabin, helping the model compete in China’s important compact family-saloon class.
Power came from a 1.4-litre T-Jet turbocharged petrol engine, offered in 120 hp and 150 hp versions. Transmission choices included a five-speed manual and a six-speed dry dual-clutch automatic, depending on specification. Trim levels varied in comfort, technology and exterior detailing, while later editions introduced minor equipment and styling revisions.
Produced from 2012 to 2017, the Viaggio occupied a specialised position within Fiat’s range rather than serving as a widely exported global model. It is chiefly notable for combining Italian styling, turbocharged engines and locally adapted production in a conventional front-wheel-drive saloon format.
