About FIAT Tempra
The FIAT Tempra was a compact family car introduced in 1990 as the successor to the Regata. In FIAT’s range, it provided a more traditional and spacious alternative to the Tipo hatchback while sitting below the larger Croma. It shared its basic platform with other models developed within the Fiat Group.
The main body styles were a four-door saloon and a five-door estate, known in some markets as the Tempra Station Wagon or Weekend. A commercial estate derivative was sold as the Marengo, while Brazil received a distinctive two-door version, including a turbocharged model. The European range offered several petrol and diesel engines, along with manual, automatic and Selecta continuously variable transmissions. Four-wheel drive was also available on selected estate versions.
Known for its angular styling, practical cabin and useful luggage capacity, the Tempra was positioned as an accessible family and fleet vehicle rather than a premium model. Equipment varied widely, with higher specifications offering features such as digital instruments. Italian production ended in 1996, but manufacturing continued for longer in markets including Brazil and Turkey. The Tempra was later replaced in FIAT’s European line-up by the Marea.
