About FIAT Seicento
The FIAT Seicento is a compact three-door city car introduced in 1998 as the successor to the Cinquecento. Designed mainly for urban use, it occupied the entry-level end of FIAT’s European range. Production took place in Tychy, Poland, and continued until 2010. From 2005, the model was marketed as the FIAT 600 in many European countries, reviving a name associated with FIAT’s earlier small cars.
Most Seicento models used front-wheel drive and small four-cylinder petrol engines. Early versions were commonly fitted with a 0.9-litre engine, while the 1.1-litre FIRE unit became an important part of the range. Trim and equipment varied by market, with versions including S, SX and the more distinctive Sporting. The Sporting combined the 1.1-litre engine with firmer suspension, alloy wheels and sportier exterior and interior details. A Michael Schumacher edition and Abarth-styled variants added further visual changes.
Other variations included the two-seat Van and the limited-production Elettra electric model. Despite its specialised versions, the Seicento was primarily known as a simple, lightweight and manoeuvrable small car with compact dimensions and straightforward mechanical components. As FIAT expanded its small-car line-up, the newer Panda and 500 gradually assumed much of the Seicento’s market role.
